Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, to Jamaican immigrants, Xamayla’s unyielding commitment to justice was forged through personal loss. The tragic murder of her 15-year-old brother, Christopher, in 2005 turned her into a relentless advocate for youth, public safety, and community resilience. Her family founded a nonprofit dedicated to violence prevention and to support families in crisis—a mission she continues to champion today.
A decisive and visionary leader, Xamayla Rose is a driving force for civic engagement, racial equity, and public policy innovation. As Deputy Public Advocate for Civic and Community Empowerment, she shaped policies that strengthened democracy, safeguarded voting rights, and amplified Black immigrant voices. Her leadership in NYC’s 2020 election protection efforts and Ranked Choice Voting education redefined civic participation, while her #BirthEquityNYC initiative set a new standard for amplifying Black maternal health disparities. Her expertise in program innovation extends to economic mobility and workforce development as a former Program Strategist at NYC’s Human Resources Administration, A strategist at both local and national levels, she has been instrumental in mobilizing over 100,000 Black and marginalized voters, ensuring communities historically left out of the democratic process have the power to shape their future.
A trusted policy architect and strategic advisor, Xamayla lectures at the City University of New York, shaping the next generation of public policy leaders. An active force in civic leadership, she serves on multiple nonprofit boards and is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, Brooklyn NAACP, and the National Council of Negro Women.
She holds a Master’s in Business Administration and is a passionate world traveler and an avid singer. Above all, she is a faith-driven leader, using strategy, advocacy, and purpose-driven action to build a more just and equitable future in NYC.
